Greyhound Coat / Galgos Coat Amnesty

Mandy Simpson of Galgos Del SolFirstly, some great news. You may recall that a little while ago, we donated a coat to the Sighthounds for Life charity auction. I’ve now had an email from Elizabeth, one of the organisers, and the final total raised from the auction was £738.10 which will be helping hounds in need. Congratulations and thanks to everyone who contributed.

Secondly, regular customers may recall that last year after the Great British Greyhound Walk, we supported a Collar and Coat Amnesty that took place. Well, this year it’s happening again.

Any unwanted coats, collars, leads and blankets (clean and washed please) are being collected for a wonderful lady called Mandy Simpson. Mandy is based in Spain, and does a huge amount of fostering and care, predominantly for galgos (Spanish greyhounds) but also for other waifs and strays. As many people know, the treatment of galgos in Spain is very poor, and there is a big welfare problem with strays. If you are on Facebook, you can follow Mandy’s page – she posts regularly about the many dogs she cares for prior to adoption, their life and welfare. Mandy is very well known to many people in the greyhound community in the UK, and is a very worthy recipient of this help.

There are two ways of helping. Firstly, there will be a collection point for Mandy at the Greyhound Walks annual dog show. This is being held on Sunday 9th August, at Notley Country Park, (off the A131), Great Notley, Braintree CM77 7FS. If you haven’t been before, it’s an amazing show with masses of classes for greyhounds and sighthounds, and is a fantastic day out.

Secondly, you can post any contributions you may have to:

GBGW Coat Amnesty
5 Washall Drive
Braintree
Essex
CM77 7GF

If you are donating by post, please ensure they arrive by the time of the show. The organisers will then pack everything and will arrange transport to Mandy.

Don’t worry if you have coats or collars that are not for greyhounds – Mandy regularly has dogs in that are not galgos so can use all sorts of shapes and sizes of coat.

We’ll be sending out some coats to Mandy, but we wanted to let you know that we are also making a special offer.

For every coat that’s bought on the website tomorrow and Friday (16th and 17th July), we’ll match it with a coat to go to the Amnesty.

It would be fantastic if Mandy could face this winter knowing that the dogs she cares for will be warm and cosy. Thank you so much, if you are able to help.
